The Faery Crossing and Covid-19

Dear Fae,

By now, the term Covid-19 is known to everyone in the world. Many countries have taken the steps that they deem right for their situation, but everywhere, people suffer of this virus. This is not limited to those who have contracted it and have fallen ill, but also to their friends and loved ones and, of course, to the valiant medical professionals who are working so hard to help all of us.

Merry Yuletide

We here at The Faery Crossing are happy and thankful that you have been on our journey with us. Whether you have been here for years or just joined this week, we are honored and overjoyed to have you as part of our Fae family.

There is no such thing as a perfect year and every year will bring hardships, disappointments, pain and anguish, just like every year will bring joy, happiness, smiles and love. Often, sadly, the hurt lingers far longer than the joy and we send our hearts out to all of you.

Where pain, however, is often found in great setbacks and impactful events, joy and love are most often seen in the smallest moments: a drawing from a son, daughter or niece or nephew; a much needed hug from your spouse or your parent; that beautiful morning that promises magic… these are the moments that count.

Wherever you are, whoever you are: from the bottom of our hearts, we wish you the most blessed of Yuletides and a wonderful , joyous and magical new year.

Important Changes to your Second Life Account: Tilia

Merry meet, dear Fae,

Linden Labs are implementing changes in the way your US$ balance is processed. Basically, this impacts the link between your account’s US Dollar balance and an external balance method (e.g. PayPal or Skrill).

Please note that this does NOT impact regular L$ purchases. If you only spend money to buy L$ inworld, the information below will not be applicable to you.

In short, Linden Labs set up a subsidiary company to handle their credit payments. This company is called Tillia and they have some requirements. We will provide you with links containing details, but here are the bullet points.

  • Tilia is a full subsidiary of Linden Labs – i.e. they own the company;
  • You will need to provide Tilia with Name, Address , Date of birth and
    (for US citizens) Social security number or (for non-US citizens) a copy of a government issued ID (passport, driver’s license, EU ID card, etc.);
  • You will need to submit proof of the above by photocopy of, e.g. a utility bill, bank statement, etc.;
  • If you have already verified your ID with Linden Labs earlier, it is likely you will not have to do this again; if Tilia requires additional information, you will be contacted;
  • If you are under 18, you are not eligible for this service – you will still be able to participate in SL in all regular ways;
  • If your account is inactive for 12 months, Tilia will begin charging a fee. This will not happen when your US$ account balance is 0$ (so this fee will not lead you into debt);
  • There will at this time be no additional fees (other than the changed fee announced earlier and the aforementioned inactivity fee);

Linden Labs and Tilia have provided several links with information. We highly recommend you peruse them and check the forum. We will list the links below.

Now, in addition to these links, we encourage you to get informed in other ways. Again, if all you do is buy L$, this should have no impact on you.

Love & Light!

Daylight Saving Time Change

Please be advised that as of this Sunday (March 31st), the part of the world that has not gone over to daylight saving time (and usually does) will move to DST, so that the regular time difference between your respective time zones will be restored.

Please keep this in mind for any events you may wish to attend on Sunday or you’ll show up an hour late and Bugs and Tealkie will have eaten the snacks.

Daylight Saving Time (NA)

Please be advised that this Sunday morning (March 10th), the clocks in most parts of North America will move an hour forward for Daylight Saving Time; this includes SLT (Second Life Time).

For people in other areas of the world, this will mean that the events will happen one hour earlier than you are used to.

Time Differences (offset from SLT as per Sunday)

  • United Kingdom & Ireland: SLT +7
  • Western Europe (CET): SLT +8
  • Finland, Baltic States, S. Africa: SLT +9

The European Union will move to Daylight Saving Time on the weekend of 30/31 March, at which points the offsets will return to their normal time span.

Rest in Peace, Nacre Swindlehurst

Dear Fae,

It is with great sadness that I bring the news that last Tuesday, the person many of us knew as Nacre Swindlehurst passed away. Nacre was a soul who had seen the world and was shaped by its variety and its joys – and also its hurts.

A few years ago, Nacre lost his wife Kaela (also known to many here), but to everyone’s joy found love again with Banshee. There are no words to describe a loss like that and all the magic of our hearts go out to her in this time of loss.

Nacre was known to many of us as the king of the facepalm pun – a skill he often employed during dances. To those of us lucky enough to sometimes talk to him in IM, Nacre was a warm, open person for whom learning new things was an ultimate joy and who was able to bring forth this knowledge with the happiness it gave him when he himself learned it.

Thank you, Nacre, for sharing your dreams with us. Thank you for giving us your presence, your quirks, your sometimes glaringly bad puns, your warmth and the beauty of your soul.

Go now, my friend. Begin that one last journey that all must undergo alone. We will be here for those you have loved and were loved by in return. You will forever live in our hearts and they are happier places because if it,

Go now. Travel to the white shores. Walk upon the green grass beyond and smile as you see the sunrise. And wait for us there.

Rest in peace, Nacre Swindlehurst.

The Faery Crossing in the MadPea Monster Hunt!

After last year’s success, The Faery Crossing will once again participate in the MadPea seasonal hunt. Unsurprisingly, the theme is Halloween and monsters will be hidden all over the grid. The hunt will begin October 20th.

The hunt uses a HUD (available for a small charge), which will randomly send you to one of the participating regions. Using the HUD radar, you can then track down the monsters and score points. Near the end of the hunt, these points can be exchanged for some amazing prizes.

The Faery Crossing will participate with several regions (Faerie Mere, The Faery Crossing and Wildewood, to name a few), but we are always looking for more suitable participants.

For more information, check the MadPea website.
